Attention:

• E-Visa processing time is up to 15 business days no expedite. Incomplete information will cause a delay in your application

• Visa fee is non-refundable, please check your information is correct before submit the application. Double check all information especially if your device is using autofill or auto correct.

• Per the regulation, The Royal Thai Consulate General, Chicago "can not" issue a visa for foreign national who are currently in Thailand. All travelers need obtain a visa before entering Thailand.

• Consular officers reserve the right to request additional docutments as deemed necessary and also reserve the right to reject any application without having to provide reason

• Application will be processed only for those are applying from within the 14 states : Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

**It is recommended to plan and apply for a Visa around 1 month prior to the departure date** 

**Please note that most types of Visa have a validity of 90 days, do not apply more than 3 months in advance as your Visa will expire before your traveling date**

**A visa becomes effective from the date of issuance. If you apply too early the visa may expire before your trip and you will have to re-apply. The fee is nonrefundable**

Applications from outside our jurisdiction will be rejected.

To remind : Your visa request may be denied when:
                           (1) upload unprepared documents and photo;
                           (2) information uploaded does not meet requirement; and
                           (3) applying for wrong visa.

                           (5) applying from outside consulate's jurisdiction

Common mistakes when filling the E-visa application:

1. General requirements on the application for visas:

If you need to apply for a VISA, below are the general requirements.

• All visa applicants in the United States must apply for a visa from the Thai E-Visa Website. 
• Valid passport or other travel documents (not less than 6 months and it contains at least one blank visa page).
• One visa application form (be duly filled in and signed by the applicant). 
• One passport-sized (2"x 2") photographs are required (color, front view).
• A copy of the flight itinerary and the most recent bank statement for all applicants for visas.
• Fee rate for each category of entry per person is collected, accordingly: Transit Visa $35.00, Tourist Visa $40.00, Non-Immigrant Visa $80.00, (one-year multiple-entry Non-Immigrant Visa: $200). Fees can be paid online through the system.
• Letter of Recommendation and/or relevant documents are required for doing business in Thailand or when applying for any other categories of Non-Immigrant visa.
• For non-US citizens, a copy of a permanent resident alien card with employment verification or a copy of a valid US visa with an employment verification letter
• For self-employed, business license, or business registration indicating the applicant’s name.
• All citizens are allowed to transit to Thailand for 12 hours without a visa.

2. Processing time

From 18 February 2021, visa applicants in the United States are required to apply online through the website https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ 

Applications are usually processed within 15 days.

3.  Period of stay in Thailand by visa classification

• NON-IMMIGRANT VISA: 90-days-stay and can apply for a re-entry visa if the period of stay remains valid.
• TOURIST VISA: up to 60-days-stay, of employment is prohibited.
• TRANSIT VISA: up to 30-days-stay, without extension.
• OFFICIAL VISA and DIPLOMATIC VISA:  as per the agreement with Thailand, otherwise period of stay is granted as necessary.

4.  Currency or monetary instrument(s):
Travelers over 12 years of age must have in hand currency or monetary instruments (e.g. traveler's check, bank draft) transferable into cash (Thai currency) for each category of visa as follows:

• NON-IMMIGRANT VISA:  At least 20,000.00 Baht per person or 40,000.00 Baht per family.
• TOURIST VISA:  At least 20,000.00 Baht per person or 40,000.00 Baht per family.
• TRANSIT VISA:  At least 10,000.00 Baht per person or 20,000.00 Baht per family.

There is no limit on the amount of Thai currency which can be brought into Thailand, but only 50,000.00 Baht may be taken out without obtaining a permit.  Thai currency can be taken out to neighboring countries, e.g. Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, for up to 500,000.00 Baht, without obtaining a permit.

Taking out an amount of Thai currency exceeding 500,000.00 Baht requires a permit from an authorized bank.  The original permit must be shown to the Customs officer while passing through the outbound passenger channel.

As of February 24, 2008, any person who brings or takes an aggregate amount of foreign currency exceeding USD 20,000 or its equivalent out of or into the Kingdom of Thailand shall declare such amount of foreign currency to a Customs Officer. Failure to declare upon bringing foreign currency that exceeds the amount restricted by law or its equivalent out of or into the Kingdom of Thailand or making any false declaration to a Customs Officer is a criminal offense.
