  • Marriage certificate of parents together with a photocopy.

  • Applicant’s parents or legal guardian must present and sign the parental consent form in person, or  they must provide a “Power of Attorney and Consent” which was signed in front of a Notary Public to certify the signatures of the parents
  • If the applicant’s parents or legal guardian live in Thailand, they can sign the parental consent form at the District of Thailand. However, if they are not in the Kingdom, they must sign the parental consent form at the nearest Thai embassy or consulate

Notes:

• A child who was born with either or both Thai parents is qualified for Thai citizenship and is, therefore, eligible to a Thai passport.
• If a child was born to a Thai mother outside the Kingdom, the mother will have to notify the Thai embassy or consulate so that a Birth Certificate can be issued to prove that the child holds a Thai nationality.
• If a child was born to a Thai father who did not sign a marriage certificate with a foreign mother, he/she will be qualified for Thai citizenship by
• The subsequent marriage of the parents.
• Legitimate Child Registration made on application by the Thai father.
• A court order on the legitimate child of the father.

  • Required if an applicant is under 20 years of age whose birth parents had legally given up the applicant for adoption, or his/her parents are not married, and the applicant is in the father’s custody.

Remarks:

• E-Passport Amendments E-Passports, bearers cannot apply to append additional visa pages. Lost/stolen: must file a lost Passport report to local authorities and bring that report together with documents proving the applicant’s Thai nationality or other Residential Registration documents such as Thai Citizenship I.D. Card and House Registration to the nearest Thai embassy or consulate to apply for a new e-Passport.
  • Changes to the applicant’s name, surname, and/or marital status onto e-Passports are not allowed because the bearer’s information can only be captured in the microchip once to comply with the standards set out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).  Amendments, therefore, cannot be made on the microchip.
• Emergency Travel Document (ETD):  If the Passport is lost and a new e-Passport has not been issued but there is an urgent need to return to Thailand, the applicable Thai embassy or consulate will issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD). The ETD only allows the distressed person to return to Thailand and will expire once the ETD holder arrives in Thailand.
• It is the norm of many countries to require travelers to hold Passports that will be valid for longer than 6 months before leaving the country.  If a Passport will expire in less than 6 months, the traveler must apply for a new e-Passport.  Before traveling, travelers must check with the embassy or consulate of countries in which they wish to travel to find out their visa requirements.

Advice on e-Passport Maintenance

• Do not make any marks, changes or amendments on the visa pages of your e-Passport.
• Do not peel, cut, append, punch holes or perform any other acts that would damage the cover of your e-Passport.
• Do not cut, bend, twist or perform any other acts that would crumple your e-Passport or change its shape.
• Do not keep your e-Passport near a magnetic field, an area with high electrical voltage, or an area with high radio frequency such as near cellular phones, televisions, or microwaves.
• Avoid placing a heavy object on top of your e-Passport.
• Keep your e-Passport in a cool, dry place.
• Avoid placing your e-Passport near objects that are higher than 50 degree Celsius in temperature, in direct sunlight for long periods of time, or in a place with high humidity. Do not allow your e-Passport near water or any places which contain chemicals or dust.
• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will not be responsible for any of damages resulting from the aforementioned actions to your e-Passport.

• Can I apply for a Thai e-Passport if I am already holding a foreign passport?
  Yes, if you can prove you are a Thai national, you may apply for a Thai e-Passport.
• Is it possible to apply e-Passport by mail?
  No, The applicant must apply in person because the applicant’s biometric data (picture and fingerprints) has to be captured into a microchip which will then be embedded into the e-Passport.
• Can applicant under 20 years of age use the same e-Passport as his/her parents?
  No, applicant (no matter how old) is required to hold his/her own e- Passport.
• If a 10-year old applicant applies for an e-Passport, is it necessary for the parents to come in person to sign the parental consent form?
  Applicant under the age of 20 must be accompanied by parents or a legal guardian. If applicant is adopted child, the said adoption must be issued by Thai law.
  If both parents cannot appear, either father or mother must accompany the child and bring a notarized parental consent form signed by the non- appearing parent.
• If an applicant is over 15 years of age but still has not reached the age of majority wishes to apply for an e-Passport, what will the applicant need to do?
  Applicants over 15 years of age but have not reached the age of 20 can apply for an e-Passport without parental accompaniment but will need to bring a letter of consent from their parents or a legal guardian.
• When do applicants apply for an extension of validity of e-passport?
  Extension of an e-Passport’s validity is not allowed.
• If you are running out of pages on your e-Passport, is it possible to append additional pages?
  No, must apply for a new e-passport.
• What to do when the pages on your e-Passport are worn-out or torn?
  You must apply for a new e-Passport.
• How to designate a representative to pick-up your e-Passport?
  In case of picking-up in person or designates a member of your immediate family to pick-up your e-Passport, you or the designated person need to present your Thai Citizenship Card together with the notification of e-Passport pick-up date.
  If you have designated a person who is not a member of your immediate family to pick-up your e-Passport, the designated person needs to present your Thai Citizenship ID Card, notification of e-Passport pick-up date and the designated person’s Thai Citizenship ID Card.
• Is there a postage service to deliver your e-Passport?
  Yes, you must notify your intention to use the postage service (Priority mail with delivery confirmation) at the time of application.
• If a Passport holder is a transsexual, is it possible to change the title in his/her e-Passport?
  No. Thai Law only recognizes the sex of a person at birth.
• What to do when you lose your Passport?
  Report to local authorities and bring that report together with documents proving the applicant’s Thai nationality or Residential Registration documents such as Thai Citizenship Card and House Registration to the nearest Thai embassy or consulate to apply for a new e-Passport or a temporary passport.
  However, if the passport is lost and a new e-Passport has not been issued but there is an urgent need to return to Thailand, the Thai embassy or consulate will issue a Certificate of Identity (CI). The CI will only be valid for the distressed person to return to Thailand and will expire once the distressed person arrives in Thailand.
• What should be done if an expired passport contains valid visa, is it possible to append an old Passport to a new one?
  No. The holder may request to record endorsements of valid visa from the old Passport to the new e-Passport and both passports at the port of entry.
• Why is it required for travelers to hold Passports that valid for longer than 6 months before traveling abroad?
  It is the practice of most countries. Before traveling, person must check with the embassy or consulate of the country/countries where he/she wishes to visit about the visa requirements needed.
