Royal Thai Consulate-General Chicago Celebrates Songkran 2026 and Supports Wat Buddha Dhamma’s 40th Anniversary

On 12 April 2026, Mr. Varapol Chensawasdijai, Deputy Consul-General , Mrs. Urasee Thiratangsathira Jeong, Consul, Mrs. Wanna Somsuk, Consul and officers from Royal Thai Consulate-General Chicago attended the 2026 Songkran Festival at Wat Buddha Dhamma, Willowbrook, Illinois. The event was organized by Wat Buddha Dhamma in collaboration with Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute (TCFAI) of Chicago. The aim was to preserve and promote the rich Thai arts and culture, allowing the younger Thai generation and foreign visitors to enjoy and experience the Songkran celebration. The event featured a variety of activities. In the morning, the representatives of the Consulate-General participated in Buddhist religious ceremonies. In the afternoon, there were Thai music and dance performed by students of TCFAI followed by traditional water pouring ceremony and receiving blessings from monks and elders.
On the same occasion, the representatives also presented the sponsorship money to Wat Buddha Dhamma to support the organization of Khon performance in honor of Her Majesty the late Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Wat Buddha Dhamma, which will take place on Saturday June 27, 2026 at Wat Buddha Dhamma.
