On December 7, 2022, Deputy Consul-General Natnapang Damrongsoontornchai accompanied Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich, Deputy Minister of Education, met with the board of Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD). The delegation visited Chicago's Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP), or Deep Tunnel, a system of deep underground tunnels and reservoirs, including the water storage and the wastewater treatment system. This system includes the process that traps wastes and transfer them to the treatment plant (Water Reclamation Plants) before the water becomes recycled for reuse. The said system is considered to be one of the great solutions to floods and one of the best wastewater treatment systems in the world.

 

Later in the afternoon, Khunying Kalaya Sophonpanich and her delegation visited the American Water Works Association (AWWA), an international non-profit organization. The AAWWA is an organization that researches ways to improve water quality, including collecting research and ideas on water management that emphasizes community cooperation, and has more than 50,000 members worldwide. This visit will further expand the cooperations between the AAWWA and the Thai government thenceforth.
